Top 10 Tips for Organizing & Simplifying Your Life

I often hear from my clients how stressed out they are. When this happens, stress begets more stress, so it’s important to have some tools handy that will help you to de-stress immediately and throughout the day.

You may think it’s complicated to de-stress, or that you have to take a vacation to do so, but that’s simply not true. And it would be unhealthy to only de-stress once or twice a year. There are ten very simple things you can do throughout your day that will relieve your stress, help you stay organized and add enjoyment to your life.

Because after all, joy is what you want at the end of the day.

simplify1. Think and plan out your day before working.
This sounds simple but too often it is overlooked. Most people start their day by checking email, voicemail messages, texts, etc., and they let the day overtake them. Instead, think out and plan your day prior to beginning work. This will focus you at the start of the day and help you to prioritize what is important. Control your day, rather than your day controlling you.

2. Drink no more than one cup of coffee per day, and before 4 pm.
Although you may feel caffeine helps you to be more productive, it’s frequently the opposite. Caffeine is often a detractor from productivity and focus. Drink one cup of java then shut the coffeepot off. Or, buy a coffeemaker that makes only one cup at a time. Avoid drinking coffee in the evening.

3. Think positive thoughts because you get what you focus on.
You know this, but may have a difficult time remembering to do it during the day. Every hour or so, stop for just a moment and think positive thoughts of what you appreciate in your life and the good things you would like to come into your life.

4. Be as kind to yourself as you are to others.
Entrepreneurs and women in particular are often very hard on themselves. You are likely to be very kind to the people around you — family, clients, people you just meet — but you may be extremely critical of yourself. You notice every mistake, but if someone else made the same error, you would let it go. Do the same for yourself. Let it go. There’s plenty of adversity out there: Be kind to yourself and your own best friend. Remember the Golden Rule: Do unto yourself what you would do unto others!

5. Keep smiling; for yourself as well as for others.
Smiling is infectious and is physiologically a boost to your immediate happiness and well-being. Catch yourself during the day and notice if you’re frowning. Take a second and just smile.

6. Think positive thoughts, (yes, this is the same as #3).
I’m listing it again, because it’s so very important and one of the most difficult things you can do. It’s much easier to replay the negative thoughts in your head and the worries. But remember, you attract what you focus on, so deliberately concentrate on good things.

7. Eat six small meals per day for energy and health.
This is great for your metabolism but also keeps your energy up during the day. Don’t let several hours go by before you remember to eat or you won’t have energy during or at the end of the day.

8. Drink herbal chamomile tea before bedtime.
It’s often difficult to unwind at the end of the day, but drinking tea is a nice way to relax your mind and your body.

9. Create a bedtime ritual for better sleep.
A bedtime ritual is a process that will gently slow you down after a busy day and prepare your mind and body for a much-needed good night’s sleep. Drinking tea could be one of your bedtime routines. Or taking a warm shower or reading a positive book or writing down all of the good things that happened during the day.

10. The present is now, not yesterday or tomorrow.
Keep this in mind whenever you can. Stressing about what happened yesterday or what might happen tomorrow never helps. Only what you are doing and thinking in this very moment can enhance your sense of mindfulness. That is what creates your future.

Practicing these ten tips regularly will decrease the level of stress in your life. I will be sharing more tips like these in my upcoming live event in November, 4G Branding LIVE. Go here for more details…
